The one room building opened in 1898 and was used as a United Methodist Church where family members gathered for spiritual refuge. The church, centered in Parkers Creek, served the community for more than seventy years. The building is surrounded on three sides by a cemetery where the forefathers and mothers of the community are buried. The building and grounds still have significance and meaning to the Parkers Creek community.
On February 14, 2019, the building and cemetery were deeded to the new owner, Gladys Wallace Jones, a Parkers Creek native and descendant of family members interned in the cemetery.
On February 22, 2022, the building became the Browns UMC Multi Cultural Heritage Center, Inc.
To interpret, archive, preserve and share rich history and heritage of the African American communities through education, awareness and public programming.
